Nipple Correction Surgery

NIPPLE / AREOLA SURGERY

INVERTED NIPPLE
Inverted nipples can be the cause of distress for many women causing potential breastfeeding problems as well as a lack of self esteem. An inverted nipple may appear flat or a slit like depression or not in the usual nipple location. You will be advised by your surgeon of the most suitable corrective procedure.

Understanding the risks
Fortunately, significant complications from nipple correction are infrequent. Every year many ladies have their nipples reshaped. They experience no major problems and are delighted with the results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks. Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation. Following nipple correction normal activities can normally be resumed when the patient feels comfortable to do so and with the Surgeons advice.

NIPPLE REDUCTION
Nipple reduction can be done to reshape the nipples that are projecting. Some women’s nipples may fold or hang down. This may occur during a women’s development or through breastfeeding.

When can I resume my normal activities?

AREOLA REDUCTION
Some women may be displeased with the size of their areola which may be enlarged due to genetic predisposition, previously having had large breasts then undergoing tissue loss, stretching of the areola due to implants or other reasons. The areola reduction surgery is designed to remove the redundant areola tissue to improve the overall cosmetic appearance of enlarged areola. The reduction may result in a slight lift and may also produce slight irregularities at the incision line if the reduction was significant. Areola reduction is often sought by many reduction mammoplasty patients as the areola can stretch out with volume gain. This procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia and the patient can go home same day.
